FORGOTTEN TIPS
- SUGAR IN DRINKS - This is often something people don't think about in their quest for weight loss. They are so busy concentrating on the food that they forget about the drinks. It is not uncommon for someone to consume 700-1000 calories and a ton of sugar each day just from what they drink. There can be a lot of calories in fruit drinks, sodas etc., so be sure to read the labels. Because sugar is a carbohydrate, it turns into fat when it is not burned off. Be sure to check the sugar content in your drinks, not just the calorie and fat content.
- SUGAR IN FRUIT - This is a tricky one. Yes, fruit is good for your, but it also contains a lot of sugar. If you eat too much fruit, you will be feeding your body too much sugar which can have an adverse effect on your weight loss. Fruit is a carbohydrate, so it will turn into fat if too much is consumed. Keep in mind, it is far better to have some fruit than a bag of chips, just remember to limit your servings.
- SODIUM - This is used for food preservation as well as in foods like popcorn and pretzels. Sodium is present in many things such as, frozen dinners, processed cheese, lunch meats etc. Sodium can cause you to store excess weight around your mid section. You should limit your sodium intake to about 2300 milligrams per day.
- STARVING YOURSELF - Some people think that if they only eat 1 or 2 meals per day, they will lose weight faster. This is a big mistake. When your body is hungry, it actally slows down your metabolism. You are having a negative effect on your body if you take this approach. Eating small meals 5-6 times a day is a far better way to go. Keep your body fueled small portions at a time and your metabolism will rise and you will have more success with weight loss.
- DRINK WATER - This is very important. 6-8 glasses of water per day is the daily recommendation. Drinking water reduces retention, so that your body doesn't feel it has to "hold on" to more fluids. This will cause your body to release what it doesn't need, which will result in less bloating.
