HEALTHY SNACKS
- NUTS - A variety of nuts contains monosaturated fat, which is very good for you and can even help to clear your arteries. When eating nuts, they can make you feel full faster than many other foods, and they are also high in fiber, vitamin E and magnesium. Vitamin E (an antioxidant), aids in the fight against asthma, cancer, osteoperosis and many other inflammations.
- POPCORN - Popcorn is a very healthy snack, so long as you don't soak it in butter or salt. It is low in calories and high in fiber. Air popped popcorn is preferred over the stove top method because you don't use any oils in the process. Be sure to check fat and sodium content in microwave popcorn (some are higher than others).
- PEANUT BUTTER - Because peanut butter is made with nuts, it offers a lot of the same benefits as they do. It fills you up quickly and it can be added to things like crackers, fruit etc. Peanut butter is high in protein, but it is also a high-calorie food, so limit your portions.
- BEEF JERKY - Beef Jerky is not thought of as a healthy snack, but in fact, it is. There are approximately 65-80 calories, 11-15 grams of protein and about 1 gram of fat per one ounce of beef jerky. Try and buy it at a health store as opposed to a grocery store (high sodium levels in grocery store jerky).
- LOW FAT YOGURT - Approximately 160 calories and 2-3 grams of fat are contained in one cup of yogurt (which is a far better snack choice than a bag of chips). It was proven through studies that people who consumed 3 servings of "light" yougurt per day as a part of their diet lost approx. 20% more weight than the others.
